Knocked out tooth:

If a baby tooth is knocked out, do not replace it into the socket. It may cause harm to the developing adult tooth underneath. Apply pressure to the site to stop the bleeding and contact your pediatric dentist.

If an adult tooth is knocked out, find the tooth and rinse it gently in cool water. Do NOT scrub or wash it with soap or other cleaner. If possible, replace the tooth in the socket holding it there with a clean gauze or washcloth and contact your pediatric dentist immediately. If you are unable to replace the tooth, place the tooth in a clean container with milk. Go to your pediatric dental office immediately or contact the emergency service number if it is after hours. The faster you act, the better the chances are to save the tooth.

Chipped or Fractured Tooth:

Contact your pediatric dentist. If you can find the broken tooth fragment, bring it with you to the dentist.

Electrical Burn:

If your infant or child burns his/her mouth from an electrical burn, go to your nearest hospital emergency room.

Lip Bite after Anesthesia:

After local anesthesia, some children may bite their lip when it is numb. The lip will swell up and may even develop a whitish ulceration. Place a cold compress on the site and keep the area clean. Contact your pediatric dentist. It will take about 7-10 days to heal. It will begin to look worse before it gets better.
